Goat Farm Mountain Bike Park

Location: Greenmount, Western Australia
Client: Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
Date: 2006 – 2022

Design and construction of a mountain bike park close to the CBD.

The Goat Farm Mountain Bike Park is considered the pinnacle of mountain bike trail networks in Western Australia. The steep, rocky terrain of Greenmount Hill, located at the base of the Perth Hills and just 25km from the CBD, provides the perfect playground for Perth’s mountain bike community.

Perth’s oldest mountain biking location, Three Chillies Design have been involved in the development of the Goat Farm Mountain Bike Park since 2006, transforming the mess of unsanctioned trails into a world class trail destination.

Following the Western Australian government’s recent injection of funding into the state mountain biking infrastructure, Three Chillies Design was awarded a three-stage design and construction redevelopment of the Goat Farm.

What stands now is over 20km of trail, ranging from green beginners flow trails to double black jump lines. The Goat Farm encompasses all disciplines of mountain biking, from cross country, all mountain and gravity, and has various styles including flow, adaptive, technical and freeride. The progressive nature of the park allows riders a unique opportunity to develop and hone their skills.

Goat Farm Skills and Jump Park

In October 2021, Three Chillies Design was awarded the contract for Stage 3 of the Goat Farm Mountain Bike Park Redevelopment. This final stage of the project involved the design and construction of an updated and expanded skills park and a newly developed jumps park.

The Skills and Jump Park were designed to be reflective of elements likely to be encountered throughout the Goat Farm Mountain Bike Park, creating an experience indicative of the wider network and enabling skills development and progression before hitting the trails.

The skills park includes features such as wooden skinnies and seesaws, and rock gardens and drops. The jump park includes a diverse array of descending jump lines ranging from green tabletops to large slopestyle jumps and features. The larger jumps feature concrete lips for stability and durability, including a large mulch jump that allows advanced riders to practice tricks in a low consequence setting.

Legacy Bridge

Legacy, the park’s gnarly double black technical trail, features the stunning Legacy Bridge. The bridge was meticulously designed and fabricated in-house, and skillfully installed on-site by our team. Our largest wood and steel structure to date, the bridge can be ridden or jumped over.

Accessible Concrete Paths

In late 2022, Three Chillies Design completed work on a pair of concrete paths designed to provide access from the Goat Farm’s car park to the toilet block and gazebo area. The intertwining paths, one finished in red and the other in grey, create a striking contrast as they meander through the trees and gracefully ascend the hill.

Rock pitching has been skillfully integrated with certain sections of the path, serving as a masterful solution to combat erosion caused by water runoff.
