Moort-ak Waadiny (Wellington Square) Pump Track

Moort-ak Waadiny (Wellington Square) Pump Track

Location: Perth CBD, Western Australia
Client: Advanteering (for the City of Perth)
Date: January – February 2021

Construction of a flowing concrete pump track in a multi-award winning inner city park in the Perth CBD.

Three Chillies Design are able to finish pump tracks with any type of surface, and Wellington Square demonstrates our versatility perfectly. Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny, or the Wellington Square children’s playground, is situated in the heart of the Perth CBD, housing Perth’s only concrete pump track.

The design inspiration for the track, “river flow”, represents the movement and flow of the Derbal Yerrigan (the Swan River). It’s a fun and engaging pump track/skatepark hybrid and suits all wheeled disciplines, and the smooth concrete finish has proven very popular with skateboarders.

Three Chillies were engaged to construct a pump track inspired by “river flow”. The scope of work included 3D modelling, engineering certification, forming and construction of the pump track.

In 2022, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects awarded Moort-ak Waadiny the National Landscape Architecture Award for Parks and Open Space, the Western Australian Landscape Architecture Award for Cultural Heritage, and the Western Australian Award of Excellence for Parks and Open Space.
