Sandpatch Reserve Munda Biddi Realignment

Sandpatch Reserve Munda Biddi Realignment

Location: Sandpatch Reserve, Albany, WA
Client: Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
Date: August – December 2022

Design and construction of 4km of Munda Biddi trail through the environmentally sensitive Sandpatch Reserve.

In 2022, Three Chillies Design were engaged to design and construct over 4km of Munda Biddi cycling trail through the environmentally sensitive Sandpatch Reserve in Albany. The Munda Biddi is a renowned 1000-kilometer cycling trail traversing Western Australia’s breathtaking landscapes. As the Munda Biddi nears its conclusion in Albany, the 4km realignment gracefully meanders through the Albany Wind Farm, offering a picturesque final segment for riders to savour.

Sandpatch Reserve is home to the endangered Main’s Assassin Spider, and special consideration was taken to ensure minimal impact was made on the species habitat. Work was only permitted within a limited footprint, and building through the sandy soil, dense, low scrubs, rocky outcrops and exposed environment often proved challenging for the construction crew.
